Hiring the full Epping Forest Pipe Band brings a powerful and unforgettable experience to your event. With the harmonised sound of multiple pipers and drummers, the band creates a dramatic and celebratory atmosphere, perfect for parades, ceremonies, festivals, and large gatherings. The sight and sound of the band in full Highland regalia adds grandeur and tradition, making your event truly unique and memorable.
An EFPB solo piper brings the stirring and timeless sound of the Great Highland Bagpipes to your event, creating a memorable and moving atmosphere. With professional experience and a tailored repertoire, our pipers are perfect for enhancing weddings, funerals, celebrations, and ceremonies with the iconic and emotive sound of Scotland.
Usually about 12 months You will first master a few tunes on the practice chanter such as Amazing Grace, before you then take on the Great Highland Bagpipes. Once you are comfortable, you will be kitted out with a full uniform and put on parade as part of the rank and file.
Not as hard as you might expect! As with any new skill, it can be tricky, to begin with, however, you will improve with perseverance.
Certainly! Highland drumming is slightly different to kit drumming, however, you will probably pick it up quickly.
We ask a £20 per year membership fee, to cover the cost of renting the rehearsal hall each week, and that you buy your instrument. You can spend as much or as little as you like, though we usually recommend bagpipes that cost around £1000 and drums that cost around £500. If they are looked after well, they will outlive you!
We are a family band. Wherever the road will “tak” you, as a member of EFPB, you won’t just have friends, you will always have an extension to your family.
Nothing! £0! $0! €0! We do have a small annual membership subscription fee which helps to pay the rent on the hall that we use each week. What we ask for in return is that everyone aims towards performing with the Band at our various engagements.
No! Regardless of whether you are a novice or a virtuoso, all levels of musical experience are welcome. All you need to do is practice!
Welcome to the Epping Forest Pipe Band! Founded in 1974 in Chingford, England, we are a traditional Scottish pipe band dedicated to sharing our love of music at corporate and community events. For over half a century, we’ve proudly performed at notable occasions like the VJ parade for the Chingford Royal British Legion and the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Walk. Our band values loyalty, friendship, and family. We welcome everyone, from beginners to experienced musicians, offering a supportive environment to learn and perform the Great Highland Bagpipes or drums. Rooted in Scottish tradition, we strive to inspire joy and pride at parades, competitions, and celebrations while fostering a friendly and inclusive community.

To ensure availability, we recommend booking as early as possible—ideally a few months in advance for larger events. For smaller events or solo pipers, shorter notice may be accommodated, but availability cannot be guaranteed, especially during peak seasons.
While we primarily perform within the UK, we are open to international bookings depending on the event and arrangements. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Yes, we are happy to accommodate special tune requests where possible. Let us know your preferred tunes in advance, and we’ll work to incorporate them into the performance. If a requested tune is not already in our repertoire, our experienced pipers and drummers will do their best to learn it.
No, you don’t need to own your own instruments to start. We can provide practice chanters for pipers and drum pads for drummers as you learn. Once you’re ready to progress, we can guide you on purchasing the right equipment.
We offer a welcoming and supportive environment for learners of all ages and skill levels. You’ll receive one-on-one or small-group tuition from experienced members of the band, as well as guidance on practicing and progressing at your own pace.
The band performs regularly throughout the year at events like parades, festivals, weddings, and community celebrations. Joining gives you the chance to take part in these performances once you’re ready, providing great opportunities to showcase your skills.
Absolutely! We encourage anyone interested in joining to come along to a rehearsal. It’s the best way to see how we operate, meet the band, and get a feel for whether it’s something you’d enjoy. Either contact us to arrange a visit, or just turn up at one of our regular rehearsal sessions; Tuesdays, 19:00, RBL Chingford, 67 Hall Ln, London E4 8HW. We look forward to welcoming you!
